How to gain intelligence in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Intelligence is key in a game like Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. The enemy artificial intelligence is pretty damn smart and avoiding potential firefights can be the difference between success and failure.

There is a variety of things that you can learn from guards that are held up such as the location of other troops or maybe even where a trapped prisoner is located. Especially because some bases can be packed full of enemies that you don’t want to encounter. Nothing is worse than turning around a corner only to stumble into a soldier carrying an RPK.

Due to the unique mechanics of MGS V you may know a high ranking solider is somewhere in the area of operations however you might not be sure where this would be a perfect time to go and see if you can interrogate a guard. Revealing the location of high ranking troops could be just the thing you need to upgrade your combat team or to achive a new level in the research tree.

To gain intelligence you must always make sure you capture the translator first. They will always be marked on your map as a side ops and once capture they will always join Diamond Dogs.

Once you are in an area of operations knowing the paths of foot patrols will be vital to your success. Don’t hesitate to spend a while observing the enemy and seeing if there are any holes in defenses you can exploit. Remember sometimes if you can’t pull off stealth planning a route with the least resistance can go far in making your job a lot easier.

Lastly, once you have an enemy held up don’t be afraid to knock them out. The last thing you want is them raising an alarm on a mission that requires stealth.

That’s all there is to it! Enjoy the game!
